Together with Chau, Senior Science Communicator at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Ann has been developing the Genetic Change Workshop for the Kickstart Biology program. The practical provides Year 12 students with an immersive experience in the world of molecular biology and biotechnology. Students get access to laboratories at the University of Sydney to purify a fluorescent protein and compare different protein expression protocols. The 2-hour workshop was designed to help them learn concepts in the HSC Biology syllabus and will hopefully spark their interest in pursuing science in the future.
Rezwan has been hard at work preparing the many reagents and cell pellets required for the workshop as well as acting as a demonstrator for the practical classes. Genetic Change is a wonderful opportunity to inspire Australia’s next generation of scientists!
For the first time, Genetic Change will be joining Kickstart-on-the-Road in May 2019!
